On Saturday, a man lost his life in a car crash after receiving an injury over a traffic dispute in downtown San Diego, San Diego Police stated.
A car crash was reported at about 2:58 p.m. on the 900 block of First Avenue. On arrival, police found a woman who was rendering first aid to a man in the street. The man suffered an unknown trauma to his upper body.
The victim was immediately taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries, police said. During the investigation, officers found out that the incident first started a couple of blocks away over a traffic dispute.
The victim had a fight with another male. When the other person drove away after the dispute, the victim and his passenger got back in the car and headed northbound on First Avenue. As the victim drove, he realized that he had suffered an injury to his upper chest and eventually lost consciousness, slamming his car into a power box, SDPD mentioned.
The woman providing aid was described as the passenger of the car. She was also taken to a local hospital. A 14-year-old girl who was hit by flying debris from the collision was also transported to a local hospital with minimal injuries, police said. Homicide detectives also arrived at the scene to investigate.
The victim’s name has not yet been revealed, but police described him as a 33-year-old man. Police added that the suspect left the scene in a small red vehicle and they described him as a stocky build, in his 30s or 40s. San Diego Police initially stated the victim was stabbed, but later confirmed that he suffered an “unknown trauma to his upper body.”
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
