A multi-vehicle pile-up killed a 33-year-old woman and injured 2 others in Vacaville (Vacaville, CA)

On Thursday, a 33-year-old Alameda woman lost her life while 71-year-old Harold Sawyer Jr. and 33-year-old Nicholas Hanson received minimal injuries following a multi-vehicle pile-up on eastbound 80 at the I-505 interchange in Vacaville.

The five-vehicle wreck took place just before 5 a.m. as the woman’s Toyota Camry crashed into the freeway median, returned to the roadway and collided with a Hyundai Ioniq, driven by 71-year-old Harold Sawyer, Jr., a resident of Albany.

Moments after, a Honda Civic, driven by 42-year-old Angel Zavala-Alvarez, of Antioch; a Volkswagen, driven by 33-year-old Nicholas Hanson, of Rohnert Park; and a GMC Sierra, driven by 34-year-old Humberto Hernandez, of San Pablo, also crashed into the Toyota, an eyewitness informed the CHP.

The Toyota driver was thrown from her car due to the impact. She was later declared deceased at the scene by the officials. Sawyer, Jr. and Hanson both incurred minor injuries and were treated at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vacaville. Zavala-Alvarez and Hernandez remained unharmed in the wreck.

The cause of the crash remains under review.
