On Saturday, injuries were reported following a five-vehicle wreck on Interstate 5, triggered by a wrong-way driver.
As per the initial information, the five-car pile-up took place at around 2 p.m. Saturday in the southbound lanes, close to State Route 905. The preliminary investigation showed that a faded red Honda Civic was heading north on the southbound side when it crashed into a Toyota Tacoma, causing the wreck. Crash debris was sent across all lanes following the collision. The Southbound I-5 left lanes were closed due to the wreck, but were opened again by 2:30 p.m.
The reports showed that a passenger in one of the wrecked vehicles had a broken leg. At least two other people were possibly injured. San Diego Fire-Rescue Department units also responded to the scene on reports of an entrapment in one of the vehicles. The driver of the Civic received “major injuries” as a result of the crash. Emergency crews had to cut the vehicle to free a passenger. Authorities believe that the wrong-way driver was driving under the influence. No other details are available.
The wreck remains under active review.
