On Tuesday afternoon, a person was killed following a motorcycle accident on Purisima Road and Mission Gate Road.
The incident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle took place at around 2:50 p.m. The crews from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol responded to the area of Purisima Road and Mission Gate Road.
A Calstar medical helicopter also responded, but the authorities later canceled the helicopter. The male motorcyclist in his 20s succumbed to his injuries at the scene. As per reports, 67-year-old Lawrence Li of Lompoc was traveling on a Volkswagen north on Mission Gate Road when he took a left turn onto Purisima Road to travel west, CHP Officer Keith Rogers stated.
For reasons still under investigation, the motorcyclist was ejected from the Kawasaki motorcycle and the bike rider crashed into the front of the Volkswagen. The 26-year-old Lompoc motorcyclist died at the scene. Authorities will reveal the identity of the deceased after notifying the next of kin.
The incident also resulted in the shutdown of the road near the intersections of Purisima Road and Highway 246, including Highway 246 and Mission Gate Road. The authorities believe that alcohol and drugs did not contribute to the crash.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
