A motorcycle accident killed 57-year-old David Wayne Birdsong on Foothills Parkway (Townsend, TN)

On Saturday morning, 57-year-old David Wayne Birdsong, a resident of Fairview, lost his life following a motorcycle crash on Foothills Parkway.

Great Smoky Mountain National Park rangers immediately responded to the crash scene between Wears Valley and Walland, near mile marker 24. Officers believe that Birdsong lost control of his bike and the vehicle went into a drainage ditch.

On arrival, medical personnel performed CPR on the victim before he was rushed to Blount Memorial. According to the reports, Birdsong was declared dead on the way to the hospital.  The incident did not involve any other vehicles, officials said. Speed is believed to be a factor in the accident.

The single-vehicle crash remains under investigation.
