The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident on Wednesday morning. The accident happened on Highway 20 near Wadsworth Canal Bridge at around 8:30 a.m.
A pregnant woman and a dog were riding in the backseat of a 30-year-old man’s Nissan Versa as he drove east close to the bridge. A Ford F-150 towing a dump trailer was following a Chevy Tahoe west at the same time.
The Tahoe and Nissan collided in the westbound lane after the Nissan veered across the double yellow lines and into the path of the Tahoe. The Ford then ran into the Tahoe’s back end.
The pregnant passenger’s unborn child was declared dead after being transported to Adventist Health Rideout. The Nissan’s driver was flown to Sutter Roseville Hospital and died later. At Northpointe Animal Hospital, the dog passed away from its injuries.
The fatal crash is still being investigated.
