On Tuesday, a man lost his life after being hit by an SUV in Blanchard.
As per the initial information, the fatal pedestrian crash took place in Blanchard at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Just then, Caddo Fire District 1 sent four units to an EMS event on Wasson Road, just north of Blanchard Lake Drive.
That section of Wasson Road was shut down for a short time. At the same time, the Caddo Sheriff’s Office dispatched four of its units to a major traffic incident at that location. That number later grew to a half dozen.
The preliminary reports showed that the man was in the middle of the road when he was fatally struck by a small SUV that was traveling south. The driver, who was unharmed, called 911 for help and stayed at the scene to await first responders. A child who was sitting in a back seat of the SUV also remained uninjured in the crash.
The Caddo Fire District 1 EMS personnel declared pedestrian deceased at the scene. The officials said that the driver did not show any signs of impairment. They obtained a mandatory blood sample from the driver.
