A 2-year-old and a man were killed while two others received serious injuries following a late-night wrong-way accident in Tempe.
As per the initial information, the two-vehicle crash took place just before 11 p.m. on Price Road just south of Southern Avenue. The preliminary reports showed that a teen was driving north in the southbound lanes of Price Road when they crashed into an oncoming car.
The reports also revealed that the wrong-way vehicle was occupied by three other people, including the toddler and their mother. The man who died was the front-seat passenger of the wrong-way car. On arrival, paramedics rushed the toddler’s mom to the hospital in serious condition. At this time, it is unknown if the teen driver and the front-seat passenger are related to the toddler and their mom.
The car that got struck was driven by a woman who received serious injuries as well. It is unclear if speed played a part, but authorities said that speeding in the area is relatively common. Police confirmed that the toddler was not restrained, and detectives are looking into the possibility of impairment on behalf of the teen driver.
