As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run crash took place at approximately 7:20 a.m. along I-5 southbound, close to milepost 21. The preliminary investigation showed that a vehicle crashed into another vehicle, sending it into Horseshoe Lake in Woodland.
The driver who caused the collision stopped for a while, but then left the scene. The victim, a man from Kalama, was rushed to a local hospital where he was later declared dead. Officers are searching for a dark-colored, two-door car similar to a late 1990s or early 2000s Honda Civic.
