A hit-and-run crash claimed life of a bicyclist in St. Tammany Parish; Andre Damiens III arrested (Lacombe, LA)

On Saturday night, a bicyclist died following a hit-and-run crash by an impaired driver in St. Tammany Parish.

The fatal incident took place at about 8:15 p.m. on US 190 near North Tranquility Road. According to the officers, the bicyclist was heading westbound on US 190 while a 2021 Kia K5, driven by Andre Damiens III of Lacombe, was going westbound on US 190.

Police identified Damiens as the hit and run driver following an investigation. He hit the bicyclist for still unknown reasons and fled the scene after the crash. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and died at the scene.

A toxicology sample was taken from the bicyclist for analysis. After locating Damiens, Officers arrested and transported Damiens to a nearby facility where he provided a breath sample that tested over the legal limit.

After the breath test, Troopers booked Damiens into the St. Tammany Parish Jail for Vehicular Homicide, Hit and Run, and Careless Operation. The identity of the deceased will be revealed after notifying the next of kin.

The accident remains under review.
