On Sunday, two people lost their lives following a two-vehicle collision in Union City.
Officers actively responded to the area of Whipple Road, west of Central Avenue just before 5:45 p.m. after getting reports of a car crash. On arrival, responders found a red Acura TL and a dark-colored Honda Pilot with major damage. The early reports showed that the Acura was traveling eastbound on Whipple when it crashed head-on into the westbound Honda.
Despite the life-saving efforts, the Acura’s driver was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda was transported to a hospital, where they were later declared dead. Reports further added that both the drivers were adults. The identities of the deceased will be released once the next of kin is notified.
At about 6:30 p.m., authorities asked residents to avoid Whipple between Central Avenue and Hayman Street as crews worked at the scene. Officials diverted traffic from the scene. All lanes were expected to be back open early Monday.
The crash remains under investigation.
