On Thursday evening, one woman lost her life in a fiery two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 8 in Alpine.
The fatal incident took place at around 6 p.m. west of Tavern Road wherein a Toyota Solara and GMC Sierra truck were involved. Reports revealed that both vehicles crashed into each other, causing them to lose control and rollover. The GMC truck flipped over in a steep embankment and landed on the eastbound side, sparking a small fire.
Three people were inside the GMC truck at the time of the accident. One of the female passengers was not wearing the seat belt and was thrown off from the truck. On arrival, authorities declared the unidentified victim deceased. Medics rushed the other female passenger and the male driver of the GMC truck to the hospital with serious injuries.
The male driver in the Toyota also sustained critical injuries. Officials shut down two lanes on the eastbound side of the freeway in the area and one on the westbound side. The identities of the victims have not been released at this time.
The crash remains under active investigation.
