Multiple injuries were reported following a two-car collision on Interstate 8 in the College Area on Tuesday.
The incident took place at about 12:30 a.m. on westbound I-8 near College Avenue wherein two vehicles were involved. A Marine was among several people who rushed to help victims of the fiery crash. Several other drivers, including active-duty Marine Nicholas Lahay, pulled over and helped the victims. The good Samaritans also pulled a driver out of the debris just before one of the vehicles burst into flames.
Lahay released a statement that “We were trying to get him out quick and get away. We went back to see if there was anyone else in the car; the car was up in flames at that point,” On arrival, medics transported multiple people to area hospitals, but the extent of their injuries was unknown. Officials blocked the westbound I-8 lanes in the area.
An investigation is continuing.
