A man was killed following a fiery crash Saturday evening on the Northwest Side.
As per the initial information, the fatal single-vehicle accident took place in the 12000 block of Culebra Road. Eyewitnesses reported to police that the man’s white Ford F250 crossed the center median, lost control, hit a guardrail and veered into a creek area where it went up in flames.
Officers attempted to get to the man and douse the flames with fire extinguishers, but failed due to the intensity of the fire. When fire crews arrived at the scene, they managed to extinguish the flames. However, the driver had been pinned inside and he died in the fire. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck. The identity of the deceased will be released once the next of kin is notified.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
