On Tuesday morning, a man lost his life following a fiery crash on Hammonton Smartville Road.
As per the initial information, the fatal incident took place on Hammonton Smartville Road, outside Beale Air Force Base. The preliminary investigation revealed that a man was going at a high rate of speed, passing vehicles in a 2008 Infinity M35. The two vehicles passed by the Infinity were traveling at a speed of 65 mph. At some point, the driver of the car failed to maintain control of the Infinity on a curve and it rolled out into the westbound lane. Just then, the vehicle collided with a Ford F-150 driving at 55 mph.
The 29-year-old driver of the Infinity got trapped when the vehicle caught fire. The man died of his injuries at the scene. On the other hand, the pickup driver complained of pain but did not need hospitalization. Hammonton Smartville Road, east of Doolittle Drive remained blocked for almost three hours as crews worked to clear the crash site.
An investigation continues.
