A fiery crash involving a single vehicle injures 4 people (San Marcos, CA)

On early Sunday, four people received injuries when a 16-year-old lost control and crashed his vehicle on a freeway in North County. The crash also triggered a small fire, California Highway Patrol said.

The solo-vehicle crash took place at about 4 a.m. off westbound state Route 78, close to Nordahl Road. For reasons that are yet to be known, the teen boy driving a 2016 Dodge Ram lost control, smashed into a guardrail, then crashed into a fence and through some brush. The vehicle rolled over due to the crash and started catching fire where it came to a stop in a ditch, according to Juan Escobar of the CHP.

The driver and his passengers, a 21-year-old woman and two 22-year-old women, all came out of the vehicle before emergency personnel from CHP, the San Marcos Fire Department and the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Department reached at the scene, Escobar stated.

All victims were transported via an ambulance to a hospital for further medical treatment. Firefighters immediately put out the flames, officials added. The two right lanes of the freeway were shut down during the investigation.

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
