A fiery crash claimed life of 1 person on Katy Freeway feeder near Beltway 8 (Houston, TX)

On early Tuesday, one person was killed in a fiery single-vehicle crash on the Katy Freeway feeder road near Sam Houston Tollway.

The fatal incident occurred at around 1 a.m. in which a pickup truck was involved. Officials closed all westbound lanes on the Katy Freeway service road as well as all southbound lanes of the Sam Houston Tollway, but reopened it just before 5 a.m.

Reports showed that the vehicle hit a light pole and then caught fire. HPD confirmed that the driver died as a result of the collision. Officers believe that speed might have played a factor in the crash and the driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle.

The authorities will continue to investigate the cause that led to the accident.
