On, Monday morning, a vehicle reportedly caught fire after it went into a ditch on southbound Interstate 5 in Fife.

As per the initial information, the incident took place just before 6 a.m. near 70th Avenue E. The vehicle reportedly had caught fire after the crash, with the flames spreading to nearby brush and trees. On arrival, the emergency crews managed to extinguish the fire.

The preliminary reports indicated that a dead body was found in the backseat of the vehicle. However, it was later confirmed that it was melted plastic liner from the roof of the car and not a body. Repots further clarified that nobody was located inside that vehicle.

A few eyewitnesses informed that the driver of the vehicle walked away from the scene after the accident. The driver is described as a thin, Black male in his 30s with short hair. He was last witnessed wearing a dark blue shirt and dark jeans.

Investigators believe that impairment may have played a part in the crash. At one point, two right lanes were shut down while first responders worked at the scene. The lanes have since reopened. No businesses in the area seemed to have been affected by the incident.

An investigation is continuing.
