One person killed in a hit-and-run accident on El Camino Real near Maple Street on early Monday morning.

The incident involving a pedestrian and a vehicle took place at about 2:50 a.m. on El Camino Real. Reports showed that a white cargo van hit and killed a pedestrian. As per investigators, the male suspect in his 40’s escaped from the scene in his white cargo van with major front-end damage and drove northbound El Camino Real near Lincoln Avenue. Authorities shut down El Camino Real between Maple Street and Roosevelt Avenue. Officials asked the motorists to avoid the area and adopt alternate routes.

Later reports confirmed that they arrested the hit and run suspect, Carl Hofstetter. Police detained him and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on allegations of felony hit and run and vehicular homicide.

An investigation is underway.
