A man is charged with manslaughter after a fatal accident in Kashmere Gardens claimed life of his passenger on Monday night, authorities said.
The driver of a Dodge Laramie truck was speeding northbound on the 4100 block of Wayne Street at about 9:20 p.m. when he hit a dip in the road and, as a result, lost control of his vehicles, said Commander Michael Collins of the Houston Police Department.
The truck then collided with a light post, rolled several times and slammed into a tree before bursting into flames, Collins said. The driver suffered minimal injuries and the female passenger, who authorities said may have been his girlfriend, was pinned inside the crashed vehicle and died. Authorities said that reckless driving that possibly involved alcohol caused this crash.
The driver, who has not been identified, possibly blew through a stop sign before the accident, they said. “We’ve accepted the charge for manslaughter because this individual, whether intoxicated or not, was operating this motor vehicle extremely recklessly,” Sean Teare of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
