An 83-year old Calexico man lost his life in a fatal two-vehicle collision on Highway 98 near Holdridge Road on Monday.

Reports showed that a 41-year old Detron Williams, a resident of Campo was driving an eastbound 2005 Lincoln when he swerved towards the westbound lane of Highway 98, and crashed head-on with a westbound 2002 Pontiac.

Officials told that both drivers tried to avoid hitting, but still collided with each other. On arrival, authorities confirmed that Detron Williams sustained minimal injuries while a REACK Air Ambulance airlifted the Lincoln passenger, a 23-year-old Mistie Upchurch, a resident of Campo to Desert Regional Medical Center.

Officials declared the Pontiac driver, an 83-year old Calexico man deceased on the spot. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim due to pending notification of the next of kin.

An investigation is underway.
