A fatal bicycle crash kills a 19-year-old boy on Manzanita Avenue (Carmichael, CA)

On Thursday, a 19-year-old boy from Sacramento lost his life following a fatal bicyclist crash on Manzanita Avenue.

The two-vehicle crash took place at about 8 p.m. at the Moldrow Drive intersection. As per officers, the victim slammed his bicycle off the side of the road and into a tree. Eyewitnesses said that he was holding onto the back of a pickup truck and then let go, sending him off at about 40 mph.

He succumbed to his injuries at the crash scene. The authorities said that it is unknown what happened to the pickup truck that was involved in the incident. Investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol contributed to the fatal crash. The identity of the deceased will be revealed after notifying the next of kin.

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
