On Sunday, a DUI crash injured a 40-year-old Tiffany Davis Garcia, a resident of Ephrata, and a 25-year-old Mateo Cruz, a resident of Othello on Interstate 90 just before 2:20 a.m. near Hansen Road.
As per reports, a 46-year-old Henry Garcia Varela of Ephrata was westbound on the freeway. Cruz was in the right lane while Varela was in the left lane when Varela merged into the right lane and hit Cruz’s vehicle from behind. Both Garcia, Varela’s passenger, and Cruz suffered injuries as a result of the collision. On arrival, medics transported both the victims to a local hospital. Officers charged Varela with vehicular assault and DUI as a result of the collision and also arrested Cruz for DUI.
An investigation is underway.
