A 30-year-old woman and a child lost their lives, following a horrific crash near State Route 702 on Saturday afternoon, as per Washington State Patrol.

The Puyallup woman and a young passenger, who was a 6-year-old girl, were moving northbound in a 1985 Mazda GLC on Eighth Avenue South before stopping at the intersection of State Route 702 for some time around noon. When they tried to pass through the highway, they were smacked by a westbound pickup truck going at a speed of around 55 miles per hour, according to Trooper Ryan Burke.

Officials carry on looking into this crash with initial reports that there was no criminal element involved in the accident at this point.

The names of two people killed in this accident have not been revealed as the State Patrol looks to inform the next of kin.

The driver and the passenger of the 2005 Ford F250 that hit the Maza, a 31-year-old Spanaway man and a 27-year-old Puyallup man didn’t receive any injuries.
