A car struck and killed a pedestrian in North Harris County hit-and-run accident (Harris County, TX)

Authorities are searching for the driver of a vehicle involved in a morning hit-and-run accident that claimed life of a pedestrian Wednesday in North Harris County.

The incident took place at about 5:40 a.m. at East Mount Houston Road and the Eastex Freeway. The victim crossed through the East Mount Houston in a crosswalk, but eyewitnesses told deputies that traffic had a green light. A black car, possibly a Honda Civic, fatally hit the person and sped away, deputies said. Medics transported the pedestrian to a hospital where they later died. Authorities blocked southbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway feeder road. Investigators are working to find out what caused the auto-pedestrian crash.

Investigators planned to review surveillance video from area businesses to ascertain where the driver may have fled and get a better description of them. If arrested, the suspect driver could face charges of failure to stop and render aid.

An investigation is ongoing.
