A 26-year-old man lost his life and two others sustained serious injuries when a vehicle plowed into a pole at high speed in Southeast Grand Rapids.
As per the initial information, the single-vehicle crash took place at around 3:25 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1 at Dickinson Street SE and Horton Avenue. The preliminary reports showed that a vehicle was heading east on Dickinson Street at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and rammed into a pole. The vehicle had reportedly caught fire due to the crash.
A passerby managed to free all three occupants from the vehicle before emergency crews arrived at the scene. The driver was declared deceased at the scene by the officials. Investigators praised the passerby who helped in pulling out the occupants. They said that the person’s actions likely prevented more serious injuries for the injured victims.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
