On Monday morning, a male bicyclist sustained life-threatening injuries after getting struck by a truck on the West Side.
The early reports showed that the bicycle rider, who is suspected to be in his 50s or 60s, was hit, dragged and run down by a dump truck or gravel truck on Fran Fran Street, close to South Zarzamora Street. The reports also revealed that the man was dragged about 30 feet, and his bicycle was pinned under the truck.
On arrival, first responders discovered the bicycle at the other end of the street after it had been freed or manually removed. The bicyclist was unresponsive and had no identification on him. An eyewitness who called 911 for help said that the man had an open head wound and injuries to his arms and legs.
He further stated that the driver briefly slammed on the brakes after the collision, but then took off when he saw the witness drive up. Authorities have not provided any information on the truck or the driver.
The incident remains under active review.
