On Monday morning, a 63-year-old motorcyclist lost his life following a single-vehicle accident on eastbound I-80 in Sparks.
The fatal incident took place shortly before 7 a.m. Sparks Fire treated the man, who was identified as a 63-year Reno resident. On arrival, medics rushed the victim to a local hospital where he later died. The identity of the deceased has not been released at this time.
Authorities reported that the motorcyclist was exiting the I-80 eastbound off ramp at Sparks Blvd and tried to take a left turn onto Sparks Boulevard. The motorcycle then hit a jersey wall as a result of which the rider was thrown off from his vehicle. The impact caused the motorcycle to go airborne over the jersey wall onto the freeway below.
Members of the Major Accident Investigation Team actively responded to the crash scene and conducted an investigation. Officials shut down the right two lanes on eastbound I-80 for hours. Traffic on northbound Sparks Blvd. from I-80 was reduced to one lane.
The crash remains under active review.
