On Tuesday, a 26-year-old Prosser man suffered injuries after a distracted teenager crashed into his car on the eastbound lane of I-82.
The two-vehicle crash took place at about 7:46 a.m. on I-82 near the exit to Richland. The early reports showed that a 17-year-old from Benton City trailed a late-90s Honda Accord driven by the Prosser man. The Prosser driver slowed for traffic near milepost 102 in Benton County while the other driver got distracted on the roadway.
He did not leave enough space and collided with the Accord. Both the Honda and his own ’03 Acura RSX were wrecked as a result of the collision. According to the officials, it was a minor injury crash as no one suffered life-threatening injuries. On arrival, medics took the Prosser man to Kadlec Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Intoxicants like drugs and alcohol were not involved in the wreck. The Benton City teen faces a negligent driving charge after the crash. He remained uninjured despite major damage to his vehicle. Eastbound traffic on I-82 was blocked for at least a mile as crews closed down the right lane and shoulder of the highway in order to clear the crash site. The incident may have affected some morning commutes through Benton County west of Richland. No other details are available.
An investigation is continuing.
