The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a multi-vehicle accident on Saturday in Franklin County. The accident occurred on Interstate 30, just east of Mount Vernon at around 12:30 p.m.
According to the officials, a car was headed east and had slowed down due to other vehicles moving over for an emergency vehicle. A pickup truck was also headed in the same direction but crashed into the first car. This caused the car to crash into an SUV that was stopped on the shoulder.
A passenger present in the first vehicle was fatally injured and pronounced dead. They have simply been identified as a 9-year-old child. The drivers of the three vehicles were injured and their present conditions are not yet known.
The fatal crash is still being investigated at this time. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
