On Sunday, a 9-year-old juvenile lost his life while 30-year-old Angela Jacobs, of Marksville, and others suffered injuries following a single-vehicle accident in Rapides Parish.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash was reported at about 4:20 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 1, south of Louisiana Highway 3170. The preliminary reports showed a 2002 Ford Escape driven by 30-year-old Angela Jacobs was southbound on Louisiana Highway 1.
As Jacobs passed an unknown southbound vehicle, she failed to maintain control of her vehicle as a result of which the car went off the roadway, hit a utility pole and several trees. Jacobs was carrying four juvenile passengers at the time of the collision. Three of the four juvenile passengers suffered moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital.
The 9-year-old passenger, who was buckled up, received serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital where he finally died. Jacobs, who was also wearing a seatbelt, incurred moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital. A routine toxicology sample was taken and submitted for analysis. No other details are immediately available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
