The New Mexico State Police reported a motor vehicle crash in Portales on Thursday.
On Roosevelt Road T, the school bus was traveling south, according to the New Mexico State Police. At the State Road 236 and Roosevelt Road T intersection, the driver did not yield the right of way. The bus was struck by a tractor-trailer traveling west on State Road 236 with a fully loaded trailer of corn.
According to NMSP, six students were transported with non-life-threatening injuries, along with the 61-year-old bus driver and the 28-year-old tractor-trailer driver including a young child who needed to be flown to a hospital in Lubbock.
The crash is being investigated by the officials. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident. There are no other details available at this time.
