The Arizona Department of Public Safety reported a hit-and-run accident on Wednesday night in Phoenix. The accident occurred on Interstate 17, near Bethany Home Road at around 9:30 p.m.
According to the officials, four vehicles were involved in the collision. A GMC pickup crashed into the back of a Honda. This caused the Honda to lose control and crash into two other vehicles.
The passenger in one of the other two vehicles was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The officials have identified the victim as 88-year-old Yolanda Cruz.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated. The driver of the first vehicle involved had initially fled but was later found and arrested.
