On Sunday afternoon, an 88-year-old woman lost her life while three more people suffered injuries following a multi-vehicle accident in Yakima.
As per the initial information, officers actively responded to the area of 48th Avenue and Washington Avenue after getting reports of a three-vehicle pile-up. The early reports showed that the driver of a 2010 Chevrolet Aveo was trying to turn east onto Washington from 48th, when it failed to yield and crashed into a 2010 Hyundai Tucson going westbound.
The Hyundai came to a stop in the eastbound lanes of Washington, where it got hit by a 2017 Subaru Forester. According to the officials, the driver of the Chevy, an 88-year-old Yakima woman, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. On arrival, medical personnel rushed the passenger, an 86-year-old woman, to Harborview Medical Center with unknown injuries.
On the other hand, the drivers of the Hyundai and Subaru were provided medical aid at area hospitals and released. Authorities believe that alcohol or drugs were not involved in the accident. No other details are immediately available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
