The Austin Police Department reported a multi-vehicle accident on the I-35 service road in downtown Austin. The incident occurred on March 17 around 1:57 p.m.
According to the authorities, Austin police responded to the crash in the 900 block of South I-35 southbound service road. Joe Ildefonso Garcia, an 88-year-old driver, was fatally injured in the crash. He was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead there. The other individuals involved in the crash refused hospital transport and stayed on the scene, cooperating with the investigation.
