The Irvine Police Department reported a pedestrian accident on Saturday. The accident occurred on Irvine Boulevard, near Marketplace at around 7:45 p.m.
According to the officials, a Jeep Wrangler was headed west on Irvine Boulevard going towards Marketplace. It hit a woman who was walking north on Marketplace in the crosswalk.
The woman had incurred fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. She has since been identified as 87-year-old Maria Servas.
The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal collision. There are no other details available at this time.
