86-year-old Joanne Kilian dead after a two-vehicle collision on Bethany Road (Sunnyside, WA)

On Wednesday, 86-year-old Joanne Kilian, a resident of Sunnyside, lost her life following a two-vehicle accident on Bethany Road.

The fatal incident happened after 3 p.m. at the 5700 block area. The early reports indicated that Kilian pulled out from a driveway on her Honda four-wheeler (ATV), southbound on Bethany Road. As she pulled out, she came in front of a large farm truck full with silage.

The truck driver, a 64-year-old Sunnyside man veered to the left to avoid hitting her vehicle, but the truck’s front bumper rear-ended the ATV and sent it into the opposite ditch. The farm truck flipped onto its side in the roadway due to the impact.

Kilian had broken bones in her legs and internal injuries. On arrival, medics transported her to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The truck driver remained uninjured. Officials mentioned that there were no signs of intoxicants or excess speed to be involved in the collision. No charges are expected to be filed against the farm truck driver.

The incident remains under investigation.
