The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a motor vehicle accident that occurred in the early hours of Thursday and confirmed that one person died as a result of it.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning, approximately four miles south of Shamrock.
The victim, identified as 86-year-old Dexter Chilton from Wellington, was traveling northward within a construction zone along US-83. In an attempt to overtake the vehicle ahead of him, Chilton moved into the southbound lane. Unfortunately, he encountered an 18-wheeler towing a semi-trailer.
Chilton was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to a crash report, the semi-truck driver made efforts to swerve right in a bid to avoid Chilton’s vehicle, but was unable to do so owing to limited time available.
