The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle accident on Friday evening.
A 32-year-old man was travelling eastbound on SR-54 in a Honda Civic when he came to a stop in the right turn lane on a red light at the intersection of Jamacha Road and Cuyamaca College Drive West.
A Nissan Kicks was headed west on the highway and it was followed by a Tesla Model Y. They were both headed left into a shopping center.
The Honda Civic failed to stop and crashed into the Nissan and then the Tesla.
An 84-year-old woman, one of the Nissan’s two passengers, was declared dead at the scene. Major injuries were sustained by the other victims. They were taken to a nearby hospital.
According to the authorities, it appears that the Honda driver may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the fatal crash.
