A tragedy struck Monroe as an 82-year-old woman lost her life in a pedestrian accident Monday morning. The Monroe Police Department reported that the woman was hit near the intersection of US 2 and North Kelsey Street at 6:53 a.m.
The fatal crash resulted in the closure of all westbound lanes of US 2 and both directions of North Kelsey Street for several hours, reopening at 9:50 a.m. The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to MPD Commander Paul Ryan.
The fatal crash is still being investigated by the authorities. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
