According to the state police, a woman died in a motor vehicle accident in Roosevelt county, New Mexico.
A vehicle struck 82-year-old Virginia Poe, who was checking her mail outside her home.
The 88-year-old neighbor was driving a GMC pickup truck with an empty flatbed trailer attached. According to the police, he stopped along the road to chat with Poe. Poe’s neighbor then drove onto his property to do a U-turn.
Investigators said Poe, who was still standing by her mailbox, was struck by the trailer as he entered the road.
She was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Alcohol or drugs do not seem to be the factor in the crash.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
