On Monday night, an 82-year-old man lost his life after he slammed his speeding car into a wall of the Macy’s parking structure along South Lake Avenue.
Eyewitnesses informed officers that the car, a brown Buick, was seen maneuvering strangely before the crash that happened at 8:15 p.m. Bystanders witnessed the car accelerating then slowing and were watching it when the vehicle suddenly sped up and plowed into the east wall of the structure, which is situated at 401 South Lake Avenue.
On arrival, emergency responders rushed the man to the Huntington Hospital, where after two hours he died of either injuries he sustained from the crash or a pre-existing medical condition. Police traffic investigators have opened an investigation of the collision. No other details were provided.
