The California Highway Patrol reported a multi-vehicle accident in Lancaster on Sunday evening. The accident occurred on Avenue D (SR-138) and 85th Street West at around 8:55 p.m.
According to the officials, two vehicles were involved in the collision. A compact SUV and a big rig crashed into each other after the SUV tried to overtake another vehicle in a no-overtaking zone.
The driver of the SUV was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The officials have identified the victim as 80-year-old Joseph Bongiorno Jr.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated at this time. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
