According to the California Highway Patrol, a pedestrian crash was reported on Tuesday on Lemon Grove.
Authorities confirmed that an 80-year-old man was injured due to the accident.
The collision occurred eastbound on the freeway near Waite Drive at about 1:30 a.m.
According to the officials, the pedestrian was walking in the middle of the lane when an ambulance struck him.
The injured man was immediately transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital for treatment.
He is being treated for moderate to serious injuries but they are non-life-threatening.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed.
Further details pertaining to the crash remain unknown.
It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
The crash is under investigation by the CHP.
