Authorities identified 77-year-old Robert Polino Avila as the man who lost his life following a traffic collision on Tuesday in Westminster.
The fatal two-vehicle crash took place at about 5:35 a.m. in the 14500 block of Goldenwest Street. According to the investigation reports, Robert Polino Avila, a longtime crossing guard, was driving one of the vehicles involved in the accident. The victim suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials.
Emergency crews transported the unnamed passenger of Avila’s car and the driver of the other involved vehicle to UC Irvine Medical Center with unspecified injuries. Reports revealed that Avila was crossing guard for the city for the past twelve years. He was not at his job site at the time of the crash. No other details are immediately available.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
