The Pima County Sheriff’s Department reported a multi-vehicle accident on Monday night. The accident occurred on North Trico Road, south of West Silverbell Road at around 8 p.m.
According to the officials, two vehicles were involved in the collision. A Dodge Ram pickup was headed south on Trico Road when it crossed the centre of the road into the oncoming lane. At the same time, a Hyundai Sonata was headed north and the two vehicles crashed.
The driver of the Sonata was fatally injured and was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The officials have identified the victim as 76-year-old Terrill Smith.
The officials have confirmed that the driver of the Dodge Ram, 60-year-old Karl Amundsen, had been impaired at the time of the fatal crash. There are no other details available at this time.
