A tragic fatal crash struck Phoenix on Saturday night when a car was struck by a light rail train, resulting in the death of one woman and leaving another in critical condition.
According to authorities, Sandra Barbre, 76, was driving the vehicle when the collision occurred.
Barbre succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while her passenger, whose identity remains undisclosed, was hospitalized in critical condition. The specifics of the passenger’s injuries were not provided, but police confirmed she is receiving ongoing medical treatment.
The collision took place as the train traveled westbound near the intersection of 21st Street and Washington Street, with the train having the right of way. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic multi-vehicle accident, with no indication of impairment as a contributing factor.
