Tragedy struck as 76-year-old Ernesto Villar lost his life in a fatal crash, discovered by chance on a brushy hillside along Pala Temecula Road in San Diego County.

Firefighters responding to an unrelated motor vehicle accident spotted the overturned car off the roadway. Villar was found trapped upside-down, and the medical examiner determined his cause of death as “positional asphyxia while suspended in the vehicle.”

The accident site, located about 3½ miles north of Pala, was stumbled upon on a Sunday afternoon. The investigation did not reveal how long the wreckage had gone unnoticed. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
