The Tucson Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash on Saturday evening. The accident happened at East Grand Rd and North Rosemont Blvd intersection at around 10 p.m.

A Hyundai Elantra was trying to make a left turn onto Rosemont Boulevard from Grant Road in the opposite direction. A westbound Chevrolet Traverse struck the Elantra as it was turning.

The Elantra’s passenger, 76 was declared dead at the scene. The adult female driver was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. According to police, the 27-year-old female driver of the Traverse was unharmed.

The Elantra’s passengers were not buckled up, and the driver’s license was suspended.

To determine whether intoxication may also have contributed to the fatal crash, detectives are awaiting the results of additional tests.

Potential charges will be brought to the Pima County Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete, which is currently in progress.
