75-year-old Hector Castro Hirales dead after a hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles; driver sought (Los Angeles, CA)

Officials identified 75-year-old Hector Castro Hirales as the man who lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on April 27 in South Los Angeles.

The fatal hit-and-run crash took place at approximately 9:15 p.m. at the intersection of Trinity Street and 41st Place in Historic South-Central. According to the investigation reports, the driver of a silver compact SUV was turning left onto Trinity Street from 41st Place when it hit the man who was walking across the street in an unmarked crosswalk.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop or help the pedestrian and continued to travel north on Trinity Street. On arrival, emergency responders rushed the victim to a hospital where he later declared dead. The man was identified as Hector Castro Hirales, of Los Angeles.

The reports further showed that the driver of the involved vehicle stopped briefly after hitting Hirales, but continued. According to Vanessa Ashley Aranda, a granddaughter of Hirales, he was on his way home from visiting friends at the time of crash. No other details are immediately available.

An investigation is continuing.
